The death of XTC 461H

Sunday the 6th July 2008 and I meet up with Tony at Luton to go cut an HB in half. Tony managed to get his son's pick-up to help and this enabled us to bring back more than originally planned.

  The Start

When we arrived I saw Mike and Paul had made it to. After very quick introductions no time was lost setting about the car. The roof was off in no time at all, but as we started, so did the rain.

The more we removed, the heavier it got.
  Paul gets stuck in

With the roof off I then carefully measured where we should cut the body using my leg as a guide. I could see Mike was impressed.
  It's off!

I insisted that we all stuck rigorously to the heath and safety guidelines.
  H&S aware!

Not even an hour gone and she was in half.
  There she goes

We next needed to remove the rear axle for Mike. All I really wanted was the boot floor pan but the wife will be really pleased when she sees how much I've managed to bring home.
  Other side

We tended not to worry to much about spanners, the grinders were quicker.
  Axle next

And when they wouldn't work, a big hammer did the trick.
  Nearly there

Both tools in action at once. Class!
  Hammer job

By this time my overalls were soaked through, so were my trouser's and pants. But I was enjoying myself. Just after this shot I did live up to my nickname, Dangerous, when I tried to unplug the grinders, whilst the rain came down and having soaking wet hands. I uttered a few expletives but it did help dry my hair!
  Drowned rat!

All my stuff back on the truck and tied in place.
  Done

We then helped Mike remove the front suspension as he was keeping that as well. This time we did use spanners, I don't really know why!
  Front end

Mike obviously doesn't know my nickname because he was relying on me holding it up for him.
  Front axle off

The front off, which just left one thing to do!
  Not much left

Put the roof back on!
  All done

Back home Tony kindly helped me off with my booty. I needed to clear some room for my new 1/2 a car.
  Home

In her final resting place! I now have two and a half Viva's in my garage, not many people can say that.

A big thank you to all those who helped me; Tony, Mike, Paul, Mike's other half for the coffee and Tony's son for use of the van.
