Once the piece was cut out and lined up I welded it in place. Note the welding is getting better. I forgot to take any pictures of the cut bit.

Nexted I tested the spare interior panel. I have removed the bracket with the sponge on.
Now for my newly made panel. This has been shaped using bloody big hammers. It fits quite nice and is much stronger than the one that had rusted away. It's also bigger.
From the inside you can see that I've extended the panel further into the car and shaped it round the wheel well.
