Shakespeare Raceway Oct 2011
One Great Day!

     || Back ||

Saturday the 15th of October saw the second drag racing day this year for the Viva Outlaws. We went back to Shakespear Raceway where we are made to feel very welcome. They had even mentioned us on their website. Only five cars again, we were hoping for seven or eight but still had a great day. This track isn't as crowded as Santa Pod and you really can get as many runs in as you like. The longest we seemed to queue was about ten minutes. This does enable you to go back to the pits area, fiddle with your car and have another go.

I had a great day with two records going to me. I got my best time in DHR of 17.3. I wasn't going to use DHR, I had intended to give the estate a run, she could have raced Paul's HA but I could see that she would get under 20 seconds and I have so much fun in DHR. Spot took his GT Crayford for the first time and ran a very respectable 18.3. They weigh a lot more than a 'normal' GT, but he forgot to do a run with the hood down to compare times. Martin's was the quickest again running a 14.2 in his Rover powered V8. Paul got a personal best in his HA and the only disappointed person, apart from my boy who didn't have a car to race was Edd. Ermintrude his V6 wasn't in a good mood even though he'd put the triple webers back on with a 16.9 best for the day.

Oh my other record I haven't mentioned yet! I had the slowest time of the day with a 43.51. On my first run the condensor lead came off within the dissy and she conked out just as I was changing into 2nd gear and I had to roll all the way to the end. It certainly gave the assembled a bloody good laugh and worse still for me was that it was caught on video so no doubt will be on You Tube shortly.

'Casper' with the hood up all day.

Racing Again

A very neat rod which looked real old school.

Racing Again

Two nice Escort both ran good time, the Mk1 was in the 15's and the Mk2 the 16's I think.

Racing Again

Spot on his way home in the traffic queue, the longest we'd had all day..

This estate was running 9.0 seconds but is having a new twin turbo engine fitted and is hoping to be nearer 8.0
