28th August 2010.....Went to the VXR power event at Silverstone today with Joanne, all in aid of Help for Hero's. Click here to see report.
25th August 2010.....I passed the 10,000 mile mark in the estate this morning on the way to work. Not bad considering I've only had her for 18 months. I think spot said I'd done about 6/7 thousand in the GT over that time too. I'll have to find out.
22nd August 2010.....I was determind to be more active garage wise today. First I decided to make my book holder which I've been wanting to do fo
r ages now. When I
go to shows I can't put my book of pictures
on DHR's restore out unless I lay it in the engine bay. If I put it on the bonnet it would scratch the car. I got some metal poles out of a friends skip as I thought they would come in handy someday...and they have. I bent the metal to the shape I wanted then drilled the holes so the top and pole wouldn't just spin in the wind as I could use holding pins. After this I made the top by cutting and bending some metal which spot had got from an old cabinet. After a coat of paint or two it looks okay and does the job. I'm thinking of pop riviting the folder to the top. Click on the pictures to
get a better view. I also finally put the rear mudflaps on DHR. I've had these since 2006 but have only just got round to fitting them. To do this I had to make a bracket up for the offside one. The nearside had an extrabit on it which helped anchor it better. If I hadn't put a bracket on the offside the inner section of mudflap would bend backwards as you drove along. This coming Saturday I'll be going to the VXR day at Silverstone so that should be fun.
21st August 2010.....Being back at work has made me lazy. I spent most of the day just pottering in the garage doing silly little things and flitting from one thing to another.
16th August 2010.....We'll I'm back, have you missed me? I've just had two glorious weeks in Cyprus, sitting by a pool, eating and drinking to much and just relaxing. Why do you have to come back? There were loads of emails when I got back, a lot from new people asking all sorts of questions. I didn't realise how many people read the site. It's taken me this long to catch up. I was out on Saturday so didn't get back to 'Vivaing' until Sunday. I cleared enough of the garage so I could get DHR outside then set to work. First I rinsed the cleaned her. Next I clayed all the body, then polished and finished off with a wax. About four hours in all. I also washed and polished the estate for good measure. That was it, no time for anything else. I will be spending the evenings this week getting the garage tidy again and I'm determined to throw out some of the rubbish I store for no good reason. Next weekend I will start welding SHW again. About time!
22nd July 2010.....I've had an update on the progress of New Zealand Ron and his GT. It's well worth a read and a look at the 'real vivaheaven'. Click here.
18th July 2010.....I'm still trying to get the garage back into some kind of order. There is stuff stacked everywhere at the moment. I spent quite some time clearing the bottom end of the bench. This meant that the top end of the bench now has more stuff on it! SHW is now full to bursting. I have stuffed the 2 new wings, 2 rear wide arch sections, 3 sills, 1 front chassis rail, 1 rear quarter bottom, 2 inner sill repair panels, chassis repair panels and 2 Victor grilles. She was already storing a boot and door. I've put the new rear bumper on a shelf as that could get damaged in amongst all that lot. I took the estate round the garage and checked and cleaned the plugs, checked the water and oil and gave the engine a general look over. I then set about adding some of the new bits I bought at Billing this year for the estate. First I changed the reversing lights. These now both work fine but I forgot to screw the new gearbox switch in place. (I still have the switch which has the screw glued into it). Next I fitted a set of rear mudflaps with the word 'Vauxhall' written on them. She always had front flaps but none on the rear. I then fitted the stainless wheel trims to the rostyles which set her off a treat. After a drive around to make sure the trims didn't come off and to cheer myself up I finished for the day.
14th July 2010.....It's the Wednesday after the Billing weekend and I'm still shattered. After the last few years I decided to book the Monday and Tuesday off work to give me time to recover. Next year I'm booking the week off. I can't do this anymore. Late nights, drinking and sleeping in a tent is begining to take it's toll. Some people are even begining to notice wrinkles on my face! I had a great weekend which started on the Thursday night and loading DHR. I'm like a big kid getting all excited and can't wait for the weekend to start. We were still quoted a stupid amount to get David on the insurance for the weekend on the estate so that had to stay at home this year. He's 25 next time so we should be able to afford to take both cars. And if I can finish SHW Joanne can drive that as well. Only joking! Billing 2012 for that one if I'm lucky. A report on the weekend can be found here.
