23rd April 2011.....Well everything went to plan, I did what I was told and basically stayed out of the way. David's new wife, Hannah, wanted purple ribbon on DHR. Now Wedding Day!this was wrong on so many levels! Firstly its to 'girly' for DHR and secondly DHR was only carring 4 blokes. On the day I wrote "the two in the back are getting married" on two bits of A4 and stuck it in the rear window. Needless to say at the church I was ordered to remove said item. The picture shows five blokes but only the first four from the right went in DHR. It was the hottest day of the year so far and I was stuck in the penguin suit, thanks a lot son!

17th April 2011.....Countdown for the boys wedding next weekend. Anybody would think he's next in line for the throne the way orders are being passed about. Needless to say I'm just doing what I'm told and staying out of the way, as best I can. I did get some time in the garage today and have replaced DHR's speedo cable which broke on the way home from drag racing the other weekend. It had twisted up inside the gearbox end and boke in two! I remember greasing the cable when I put it in so why should it break this soon. I've also finishe welding the inner front chassis rail to the floorpan so the new chassis rail which goes up into the engine bay can be added as soon as I've got the boy off my hands!

10th April 2011.....Got Sunday time in the garage and after a quick clear up of the garage floor, (not the bench), I spent some time on SHW for a change. I managed to finish making the end of chassis rail insert which needed to be welding on before the new chassis leg goes on. This I managed to do although I will need to seam weld it a little more I think. It was tested with the new chassis leg so all is looking well and it felt good working on SHW again. Again the forthcoming two weekends I will have little garage time as next week I only have Sunday to myself and the following weekend David is getting married so that whole weekend is out. I really need to retire.

3rd April 2011.....Sunday morning we left Flod's and I led them back to the barn. I got lost two or three times and in the end I was shouting at Jane, my satnav, and we ended up arguing so much I switched her off. More shouting and this time fist waving from Spot. Back at the barn Edd gave me a front suspension unit so I can start to sort how I'm going to mount the V8 in SHW. (Someday!). On the way from Edd's to home DHR's speedo cable stopped working after some rather horrible clunking noises. Another job. But what a good weekend. Plenty of beer, curry, racing, Viva's and most important of all laugh's. (Pictures will go on tomorrow as I forgot to bring it to work today).

2nd April 2011.....Up early and off to meet Edd and Spot at Edd's barn. I was instructed not to be late. I arrived on time to find I was the only one. Half an hour later Edd arrived. He was late due to, lets just say he 'rose early'? Spot arrived 15 minutes later still. Edd being Edd hadn't done anything to his V6 so we had to move all the rubbish, pump up the tyres, refit the battery and fill up the car with petrol. I guided them both to the drag strip without getting lost. We arrived to see Martin and Paul waving us forward so I followed there directions, only to find I'd gone too far and was actually on the way to the start line. Opps! Spot had followed so needless to say I was shouted at quite a bit. (It wouldn't be the only time this weekend). Paul had already run his HA and managed a great 20.8 seconds I think. For an 1159 engine I think that's pretty good by any standard. After getting the cars scrutinised, (they made me put an old beer can on the radiator overflow on DHR!), we paid the £20 and the racing commenced. Martin's newly built V8 HC was the quickest of the day at 14.5 I think. I'd never done it before and DHR did me proud really. Only once did I have the petrol problem thing and then I still managed an 18 second run. My other times were 17.9, 17.8, 17.6 and 17.7. I did have one other time which was 20.4. Now this one did make for an embarrassing weekend for me. I'd got set first, ready at stage 2 waiting for the little Honda in the next lane. As his stage 2 light came on my stage 1 light went out, so I thought I had rolled forward so put the car in reverse. Then the lights went and the Honda roared away. I followed forgetting I'd put the car in reverse! As my nose headed for the steering wheel I realised what I'd done and scrabbled for first but by then it was to late. The laughter that has greeted me all weekend has been somewhat annoying! Paul gave me another starter for the estate which was brilliant of him, thank you Paul. After a great day we went up to Flod's in Birmingham for some beer and curry. I led and got lost twice I think and I had a satnav! More shouting from Spot. At Flod's they were spraying Flod's HB in peacock blue. (Flod, Sid and Deon). We had a good night in the pub and curry house where I got plenty of ribbing all evening.

1st April 2011.....I'm sorry there's not been much to read lately, I've been slacking. I've got Friday and Monday off so I have a long weekend. DHR wouldn't start and its all to do with petrol. I removed the top of the weber and blew it out with my airline. Then I removed the pump and pumped it by hand to fill the bowl. It seems to drain away but I have replaced the valves in it. Anyway she started! If you put your foot down sometimes she would judder, I'd lose power but then she would take off again. After a run it seemed to be okay. I let her cool then did it again but she did the same thing just once. Anyway I'd decided that I was going to use her at the weekend and take a chance. We were off to Shakespear raceway near Warwick for a run down the drag strip. I finished loading DHR and couldn't wait for Saturday morning.
